“Mourning Day in Ukraine”
February 20 declared a day of mourning for the victims of clashes in Ukraine.
“Due to the loss of lives as a result of riots in Ukraine I order to declare in Ukraine February 20, 2014 a day of mourning,”- reads the decree of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.
On the day of mourning, throughout Ukraine the State Flag of Ukraine on houses and buildings of public authorities, local self-government authorities, state enterprises, institutions and organisations are to be lowered to half-mast; entertaining and concert events, sports competitions are to be cancelled, and relevant changes to the TV and radio programmes are to be made.
The national flag is lowered over the Embassy of Ukraine in Ottawa, honoring the memory of those killed and injured Ukrainians.
The Embassy of Ukraine in Canada expresses its deep condolences to the families of victims and wishes a faster recovery to the wounded.
